A Jazz Tribute to Nick Drake - "Five Leaves Left" by the Jason Parker Quartet
Jason Parker and I became friends on Twitter in 2009. You may be saying to yourself, "Friends?" How can she call someone a friend if she has only known him online? Well, I'm here to testify that Jason and I are indeed friends. It was easily confirmed when I hung out with the Jason Parker Quartet during my visit to the Pacific NW in September 2010.
The members of the Jason Parker Quartet (JPQ) - Jason is a trumpeter, pianist Josh Rawlings, bassist Evan Flory-Barnes, and drummer D'Vonne Lewis - are like brothers to me.
JP has discussed the concept of the next JPQ album with me for a few months now. It is his interpretation of British singer and songwriter Nick Drake's debut album "Five Leaves Left". The best way for me to share with you Jason's passion regarding the recording of this music (and info about the Kickstarter fundraising project he started) is to watch the following video:
In the video, Jason refers to packages that are "to his right". The packages are listed on the actual Kickstarter fundraising page. You can see what he is offering as an incentive to pledge money to the project here.
The following video is the JPQ's cover of Nick Drake's "Three Hours". This is one of my favorite songs performed by the JPQ! I wish that you could see Evan playing the bass but the camera lens couldn't fit everyone in the frame.
I'll post updates on the progress of the project just like I did back in the summer for the British documentary "The Queen's Suite".
If you are on Twitter and are a part of the growing jazz community there, you probably know Jason. If you're not, get to know him through his blog - One Working Musician.
Gone are the days of over-inflated pricing set by the major record labels to support senior management salaries and lifestyles. You know where your money is going with the creation of this album.
If you are able, I would like to encourage you to fund this project.
Thank you
