Do You Believe In The Power of Music?
I'm back!
The odyssey that I just returned from was good for me in many ways. I am touched and humbled by some of you letting me know that my online presence here and on Twitter was missed.
Thank you.
Today's video isn't about jazz per se, but it is about the power of music. I saw this before I left for vacation and it had a lingering effect on my thoughts.
To be sure, you've generally heard about how powerful music can be but here is a tale of how it soothed a warlike but lonely heart.
As some of you know, listening to jazz music was originally a therapeutic thing for me. It helped me go through a grieving process. Nothing else helped. It was a balm for both my heart and soul.
What has music done for you over the years? Has it got you through tough times? Has it inspired you to go beyond your comfort zone?
Or, is music just a "filler" for you - something to have on in the background to keep you company? Let me know. I'm interested in how it affects you. ~

Welcome back, Donna. You were certainly missed. I grew listening to everything, and I believe I think in music and sound. It is everything to me, even just listing to rain on my window or the sound of the ducks on the lake in the morning. Music is a part of every facet of my life.
Keep listening & sharing great sound.

Music itself is therapeutic. It has many qualities that can promote healing. If I did not have music in my life, I probably would not be here today. Music is here to stay in my life.
Hello Donna:
Welcome back!
A day isn't complete without music, to heal, for fun, to think, to smile, to cry, there's always a melody, or not, there's avant garde jazz too :-)
Best wishes, as always,
Federico (aka euskir)

Hi there! I totally understand "If I did not have music in my life, I probably would not be here." For myself, music has been an anchor in challenging times.
Thank you both for taking the time to leave a comment. :)

Thank you for the welcome back!
I totally feel that way about music, too. I am curious, though, about how music affects people today in this "disposable music" mindset that seems to be prevalent.
Does it have a lingering effect or is it just background filler?
I hope that you are well. Thank you for the comment!
Welcome back, Donna! I'm one of your responders who finds music essential and who wants to focus when listening, rather than experience aural wallpaper ... and like LaFemmeLaVie, I find musicality as well in nature and usually reserve time each night to sit outside and listen to the birds, the breezes and the rain. Both my parents were involved in music to a minor extent so it's had a place in my life since the beginning; I also collect writings about the role of music in humans (http://www.beatconscious.org/brain.htm) where the consensus is forming that music processing can be an endorphin trigger, which may account for the growing recognition of music's therapeutic qualities. But if it did nothing other than tickle my brain the way it does now, I'd still be satisfied =;^)
amazing video , will tell you my story by e-mail this weekend.

Thank you for taking the time to comment about how music and natural sounds have an effect on your well being.
I am hopeful that music is more than just "aural wallpaper" for most people. It's great to read how special it is for people.
I can't wait to check out your website; thank you for the link. :)
This is beautiful Donna. Thank You.
