What to expect from Elements of Jazz

Why did I create ElementsOfJazz.com [EoJ]? What do I hope to accomplish with it? It's my desire to bring appreciation,  understanding and camaraderie to the world of jazz artists & their fans.

The first thing that I want to share with you is this ~  While there may seem to be some borderline proselytizing going on at times (smile), I want you to listen to music that you enjoy. I will make suggestions to guide you and pique your interest, though. smiley emoticons

Secondly, I want this to be a journey of discovery for everyone.

I'm late to the jazz game but I feel that is one of my strengths. When I was younger, I was told what I should listen to in order to "get" jazz. That approach never worked for me. If anything, it made me turn a deaf ear to the genre because I got the impression that "there was only one way to get it". o_0

EoJ will be a place for many of the "elements" of jazz to be shared, enjoyed and discussed. The sub-genres that will be written about in the future are: big band, swing, bebop, cool jazz, hard bop, modal jazz, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian jazz, free jazz, acid jazz, post bop, soul jazz, gospel jazz, funk and hip-hop.

The third point that I'd like to make is this...

The history of jazz is important. It will be blogged about here. However, the emphasis is going to be on the musicians & vocalists who are alive, creating and performing the music all over the world as I type this. angel smileys

In the near future there will be a section for jazz history, concerts and shows, an index & search for blog posts (which will include artist profiles and album reviews), and a few other things that I have in mind.

Are you still with me? I invite you to begin our musical journey together!
